Welcome to the epom EP. The epom is the name I am giving to an etextiles pressure sensor I have developed for music playing. This is a form of signal processing using very new etextile tech to create soft circuits used for music. The sensors allow a charge of electricity to be manipulated, this charge is then turned into data that is programmed to make compositional changes.

The sensors I am making form part of an electronic circuit that is hooked up to a Bela mini. Bela is an embedded computing platform for creating interaction between people and sound.

The epom is based on principles learnt under my mentorship by Dr Rebecca Stewart at Imperial College and open source techniques inspired from KOBAKANT etextile collective.

I am using the epom as an effects interceptor, more than a 'controller'. I say interceptor because there is no specific 'control' due to to the fluctuations in electrical resistance that are produced by the pressure on the sensor.

The materials are a combination of traditional felting and wool materials and conductive etextile wool and yarn. Also my long time collaborator Robin Bale inflected the design with his suggestion to wrap a pom pom in felt rather than use all felt.

While I am developing a full etextile based performance garment incorporating the poms I wanted to start making music with them.
